I think if a book is captivating enough, the environment doesn’t matter too much. I do most of my reading in public transport, usually standing and reading on my phone. You can hold your phone in a way without slouching or your hand getting tired.

For books that are really demanding I may prefer reading at home, sitting on a chair or the bed. But I can’t read while lying down, it’s either super uncomfortable or I fall asleep. Physical books are nice when they’re small but I’ll still prefer the phone.

No notes or anything like that, maybe some underlining that I’ll forget to get back to afterwards.

Yes, the ones you mentioned. At least these accounts and threads are not always deleted. It’s happened before on lemmy that multiple posts get made on the same topic by new accounts and then both the post and account get deleted. I remember similar around last year so it’s not new.

If you mean with their current alphabets not really. If you mean making a new writing system why not? You’ll still have trouble representing non-physical concepts but Chinese/Japanese can’t represent everything accurately either.

Strangely enough they’re usually well made. There are cases where things are translated slightly differentely than you’d expect to get closer to the original meaning in the other language or to save space (cause this is also often a problem). But these differences are interesting in themselves, like you see a different interpretation. In the rare case where it’s really bad you can tell without knowing the spoken language.

Most android keyboards have all the special keys you need, they’re just 2-3 clicks away instead of 1. Something like Unexpected Keyboard might be more convenient. But the small screen is a bigger problem than the keyboard. Of course it can be done, it’s just a miserable experience.

In addition to everything said, people underestimate how god awful some translations still are. Stuff like date pickers where May is translated as “maybe” or “three days left” where “left” is translated as “opposite of right”. Even for websites I’ll prefer the original language even if I don’t exactly speak it, and then translate myself the part I need.

Not mentioned yet, people working at real estate agencies (at least for renting). They take a lot of money from both sides and at best just unlock the houses so people can see them, at worst they are actively disruptive to the process.

And this is why graffiti is not bad. If companies get to alter public spaces with their ads to make money, then people should be able to alter public spaces for artistic reasons.

But careful not to update too fast and fall on the supply chain attack of the week.

The trouble is when you don’t remember them but also don’t have an alternative set up and are just expecting things to work.

For what it’s worth I never felt like I belonged in my home country. And I’ve never lived abroad but when visiting, it always felt very foreign too. As much as I dislike my country’s culture it’s still a part of me that’s very hard to change and I guess that’s the problem with living abroad. In a way, international groups might feel the most comfortable as there’s no predefined culture you have to fit into.
