No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come the ad industry make so much money?
3·4 天前if you’ve deliberately changed someone’s behavior to align with what you want, then who cares what anyone calls it? the end result is the same- the ads worked

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come the ad industry make so much money?
7·4 天前the stupid rhymes and jingles aren’t meant for anyone to like them, they’re specifically designed to get stuck in your head, regardless if the thing itself is relevant to you. WE ARE FARMERS ! BUMBADUMBABUMBUMBUM! you literally just sang that in your head. whether you meant to or not.
mind control and psychological manipulation are real and powerful things. they wouldn’t be spending the money on it if that weren’t the case. it’s about taking up as much space in your brain as possible, so that you have no space left for the competition’s jingle

Technology@lemmy.world•The SCREEN Act is a Christian Nationalist NightmareEnglish
18·11 天前it’s for the surveillance for the christotechnofascists who need to convince all the pearl clutching evangelist deadbedroom karen moms that their kids are going to instantly become satanic infant eaters if they catch a glimpse of how infants get made, in order to get them foaming at the mouth to vote against everything except what the billionaire owner class wants
the messaging is pretty much “you shouldn’t have to be responsible for raising your own fucking kids–that should be up to the internet, public school, and libraries”
and of course those gullible chuds lap it all up like hogs at the trough

Technology@lemmy.world•FCC may kill $2B program that connects schools and libraries to Internet | FCC Chairman Brendan Carr cites screen time concerns, is accused of trying to be “the nation’s parent.”English
54·2 个月前rich corrupt fascligarchs couldn’t care less about your kids’ education, let alone "too much screen time. they need manual laborers from the peasant class, they don’t need a generation of educated adults who have the capacity to form their own opinions regardless of what they’re told to believe
so the answer is simple: label access to information as evil, and then eliminate said access

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Should we ditch the idea of three meals a day?
2·2 个月前true, grandma would be absolutely horrified to hear anyone ate just one meal yesterday, on purpose, and plans to do it every day this week. it’s almost blasphemy
but also the corporations selling everyone quick easy cheap (and disgustingly unhealthy) food-like substances at the drive thru and breakfast aisle certainly don’t want anyone skipping any meals either. in fact they want you to be eating all day every day
the difference is grandma doesn’t want anyone to feel like they felt in the depression, not knowing when they’ll eat again, and corporations just want your money

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Should we ditch the idea of three meals a day?
144·2 个月前most people in the states actually think they’re going to die immediately if they skip a meal, let alone two.
the “never don’t eat, for any reason, ever–or you will DIE” mindset is one of the things we’re most force-fed from birth onwards.
it’s becase if you skip a meal, that’s money that wasn’t spent. if everyone skipped a meal, that’s a lot of money that wasn’t spent. we can’t have that in capitalism. therefore, eat abundantly and often. it doesn’t matter what, as long as it’s something you bought
