It probably won’t matter as much, your best bet is to put it into useful assets while the money still has spending power.

Look at the manual and spec sheets of your supply. It should provide a load chart that has its efficiency at various points. You want your system wattage at full load to sit at the same number as the supplies highest efficiency. The percentage of power lost to conversion comes out as heat, and heat is what kills components.

A few percent at something like 500w can be the difference of 10-15w of extra heat for the supply to deal with. 75% efficiency from a cheaper 850w supply run at the same 500w would leave you with ~125w of power to cool, most of it concentrated on a few components in the supply.

If you are struggling to get rocm installed at all then stop using the amd guides and just install the pre built binaries directly. Fedora packages them in their repository and in my experience rocm just works once you run dnf install rocm*.

That’s not much of an issue these days, you can offload rendering pretty much wherever in Linux. Level1Techs has a whole section on their forums on SR-IOV and working with offloaded compute in homelabs for awhile now.

Basically, it’s twice the cost at a minimum. Want 3D movies? Well, that’s 2 cameras, double the storage, and all of the added workload in alignment, effects needing to be done for each eye… Basically double everything and add some to stitch them together.

3D games? Same thing, but with calculations. You have to render each eye, plus the calculations to keep them aligned and in the right place.

3D screens? You have to render each eye, so you have to either do glasses or funky screen tech like the 3DS to get that image to each eye at the right time, so the usual minimum is a screen that refreshes twice as fast plus a bit extra with the glasses to tie it all together.

See the pattern? It’s twice as hard, twice as expensive, plus a little extra.

When you lose weight that fast the fat around your body isn’t removed equally, and you still have the extra skin left once the weight is gone. It takes a few months to a year to have everything even out.

You can also paint the fakes before you apply them, which makes the entire process so much easier.

I watch his videos from time to time, he stays quite up to date when it comes to the underpinnings of modern software engineering. Mind you, just because he retired doesn’t mean he stopped tinkering and building. By all accounts he is still poking around in a number of projects and contributes his fair share of expertise. I’m not a fan of him not outright calling out Microsoft for their bullshit, but I do respect the sheer amount of expertise he brings to the table. Calling him out of date, particularly with the level of understanding needed to make something like a task manager, doesn’t seem fair.

Honestly you can just remove the ambiguity and put the number right at 1 billion dollars of net worth. Up to that point is obscenely wealthy, but a billion is the line that guarantees the majority of your wealth came directly from the exploitation of the masses.

You can’t ethically make a billion dollars as an individual when the working class sees 1/10,000th of that in a year as doing fairly well in most areas.

Patents and the fact that these chips are massively complex designs. We are talking architecture on the complexity level of the empire state building, most of which is a blend of proprietary designs developed over decades.

Nobody is saying you can’t do it in your garage, in fact it’s easier than ever to start. Let me know how it goes, look into some of the recent tapeout challenges to get an idea of what you are proposing people just make in a garage.
