I would use eminent domain to take away the land from data centers and make public parks. I can easily make a case for public parks.

I don’t think you’re gonna buy the Steam Machine even without an optical drive.

PS4 Pro is $210 on Amazon. With an optical drive that lets you borrow games. Rent games from a public library. Buy used games. In addition to movies and Blu-ray’s that are much higher quality than any streaming service unless you have worthless eyes and are some kind of child that thinks that time passing makes things inferior.

It just gives the old console even more value. It’s a 1080p system with a massive library of great games at dirt cheap prices.

The Ferrari was designed by Jony Ive. It definitely looks like something he would design. He’s all about clean, minimalist design where everything is utilitarian.

Ferrari as a brand is about beautiful extravagant design in the fastest and least useful vehicles on the planet.

I can’t think of a less synergistic combination that Ferrari and Jony Ive.

Better fits for Jony Ive would be Hyundai, Kia, BMW and Mercedes. Those four are making some ugly ass cars that need to go back to the drawing board.

Valve managed to make a system that can possibly outperform a PS4 for $1050 plus tax plus whatever a controller costs.

The PS4 can also play DVDs, Blu-ray’s and comes with a controller.

It looks fine.

It just looks like a minimalist hatchback in a era where minimalist design is already overused.

The interior is the only part of this vehicle that is actually interesting.

I have a mini-itx system that I managed to build right at the moment RAM jumped 50% in price.

The problem isn’t the size of the board. The problem is the ITX orientation of all the components forces PC to be much larger and a bit more complicated than they have to be to build.

I think if engineers were given this problem to solve while allowing for modularity and upgradeability would definitely come up with something much better than what we have.

Edit - for example, both the motherboard and the GPU need a ton of power. Why not have a standard where they both slot into the power supply? Why not have a PCIe pass through built into the power supply so that both large boards sit back to back instead of perpendicular?

It’s just an idea but I was thinking of that while routing cables on my last PC build.

I think the ATX design is limiting PC design and making systems much larger than they need to be.

Valve should have designed a new standard that also includes power supplies and discrete GPUs for more space efficient design that also makes cooling easier.

Size, energy use and design are the main positives of the steam machine.

Time will tell if there is enough of a market for that type of device.
