I still argue that in a lot of urban areas where the road has swelled to its natural limit, depending on the road, it can be good to reduce the road by one lane and add a protected bike lane. But this is situational. Not every road needs a bike lane. But there should be bike lanes every so often, so people can safely get close to their destination without bothering motorists.

It’s too much of a mental simulation to imagine how reducing car lanes becomes a benefit to those that must drive because of a reduction of traffic and potential improvement to overall flow.

I’m Australian, so maybe my experience with cyclists and cycling infrastructure is different. We usually extend our roads and have a green lane for cyclists, or even dedicated cycling ways alongside the footpath (sidewalk).

People here whinge that these protected cycle ways get built. And I’m just baffled.

When car drivers are stupid they get in a small prang and have to pay the excess on someone else’s insurance.

Docker in and of itself is not the problem here, from my understanding. You can and should trim the container down.

Also it’s not a “whole nested computer”, like a virtual machine. It’s only everything above the kernel, because it shares its kernel with the host. This makes them pretty lightweight.

It’s sometimes even sometimes useful to run Rust or C++ code in a Docker container, for portability, provided you of course do it right. For Rust, it typically requires multiple build steps to bring the container size down.

Basically, the people making these Docker containers suck donkey balls.

But this is a luxury hobby. And with luxury hobbies, there’s usually some flexibility. You don’t need a high-end PC to play games. You can run plenty on a lower-end setup, try different genres, or even step away from PC gaming altogether.

You could have friends over for a tabletop game, go for a run, hit the gym, or try something like rock climbing. There are lots of ways to spend your time without needing top-tier gear

I’ll give you an example; I’m more leftie than my wife. So it surprising to her when I said that people should be allowed to just punch Nazis with no legal ramifications. Like to her it was actually confronting to hear someone she knew advocate for violence. I explained my reasoning. They are corrosive to society’s norms, and really need a different set of rules to regular people to be contained. The only language they understand is violence.

But the point is the average person is going to be immediately repulsed by calls for violence and extreme rhetoric, regardless of whether it is morally justified and the reasoning is technically correct.

So imagine a moderate “regular” person coming to this forum. Without the context of history that you and I have, how do they interpret these comments? Will they want to stay on Lemmy?

I’m not saying Lemmy should change, by the way. I have no problem with the rhetoric, and there’s a case to be made that getting rid of it may make it easier for conservatives to get a foothold here. But it’s worth a discussion, I guess.
