As you can see, I’m on mbin, originally because it has the goal of being a network that could be used to access a number of other networks - definitely Lemmy, and Mastodon was promised at some point but I don’t think that ever happened - and development doesn’t seem to be going further.
So I’m curious - is there a “do-it-all” network? The basic idea is: when I scroll through my feed, I not only see content from Lemmy, but also from Mastodon, Piefed, Peertube, Pixelfed, etc, and can also comment on or create content there. Is that something that exists or is that a pipe dream at the moment? (Or would that not even be possible due to some technical limitation?)
I checked the global microblogs page, but I’m mostly seeing things posted to [email protected], with a couple of things posted to some Lemmy instances, but nothing posted to mastodon. Maybe I’m understanding the whole concept wrong? (Or I’m blind?)
But I did look at the Linux Experiment channel - and realized that I have seen their videos in my feed - awesome! And there, it makes sense that not as many of those pop up, since there are way less videos being created than posts made. But I now know that that works - cool! (And now I’m distracted by another of his videos…)
Mastodon (and related platforms) do not have a concept of magazines (communities), but Mbin requires that all posts should be categorized into a magazine, thus, most Mastodon posts you will find within the
randommagazine. They are still going to include external servers, which you can verify by checking the author of the post and seeing which server they are from.OK, got it! I tried going on a microblog post and opening the original URL, and sure enough, I landed on a Mastodon instance. Makes sense, I was sort of surprised at the amount of microblog content on kbin.earth, that explains that.
