From those 3 you can discover others
How did you make those links because they’re off site links and I’m trying to figure out wtf is going on in this thread.
The Lemmy Web UI has an autocomplete function for communities names
Because the instance is dedicated to pictures of owls and it delivers on that mission. I don’t even like owls all that much, but it’s like one the last few consistent things in my life.
That was a lot funnier on reddit where there could be only one community called “superbowl” and it was about superb owls. Here on the fediverse, “superbowl” on other instances can still be communities about the Super Bowl.
I’m okay with the tradeoff
I wasn’t going to say anything here, because I’ve been trying to self promote less now that we’re a big enough group, but that so many upvoted this without any kind of promoting felt really nice.
Especially from someone like you who has stuck around a long time now without even being super interested in the subject matter tells me I’m doing something right.
I have a hard time thinking I ever accomplish much of anything important, but a number of you have said some really nice things the last week or so and it’s meant a lot to me. I try my best to show that appreciation back, and I hope I do that.
And I’ll always argue that even though I provide most of the posts, it wouldn’t be a fun place without all of you that do come and comment or just keep the place active and a generally good place to be. It encourages me to keep giving it my best efforts even if I’m not typically a super social person. You’re a really great group and I feel fortunate you share your time with me.
PS. Chicuahtli forever!
Hey fun fact I actually confirmed chicuahtli is the barred owl in Nahuatl after finding the word chichtli for barn owl.
It’s still a mess online sorting it out when doing searches for it and I haven’t cross referenced versus other dialects.
Regardless keep posting owl pics. I’ve been doing Codex research for fun and found a good source for images. I’ll start keeping note of where I find owls and reach out later.
Very nice! I’m into whatever info you have to share! Always down to learn more about other cultures.
If you ever assemble anything to read, I’d love to hear about some of what you’ve learned about owls or the Nahuatl in general. You’ve had to have put in a lot of hard work and I’m sure you’ve connected a ton of great random bits of history and culture.
[email protected] for the lazy
Does my link not work for you?
Edit: The link does not in fact work as I thought it would. I learned something about the Fediverse today.
Your link goes to lemmy.world, which only works for users on lemmy.world. For everyone else who doesn’t use lemmy.world, you just get to lemmy.world where you are not logged in. So you need that kind of link to go to the community while still staying on your own instance.
It’s like if I linked to the Feddit.dk community like this instead of like this: [email protected]
I’m still learning Lemmy in particular and federation in general and your comment is very helpful, thank you
You’re welcome! :)
Oh wow I never realized that. I’ll keep that in mind in the future.
Having random superb owls appear in my feed is very cheerful!
[email protected] - because we have booty (like treasure, not that booty) (not accessible on lemmy.world instance)
how did you make that link? trying to figure out why some are linking off site and some are working correctly.
[email protected] should be correct
I use the web UI, the link should diect to your intance’s version of the community, not to the lemmy.dbzer0.com instance.
Apps might behave differently.
(And my link is the exact same as the link you put)
might not be federating correctly. yours is a direct link mine is a relative link. but both look the same on Lemmy instances.
I’m sure they can do something if you want the other type of booty too.
here’s a dead community ran by some asshole mod who never contributes anything anymore:
[email protected]Essentially it goes through the lyrics of various songs and tries to pinpoint how timeless the lyrics are based on their etymology. The further back in time the song can be taken, the more timeless it is. The analysis is in the comments, not the post text.
Like I said, the mod’s an asshole, so just best to avoid it completely if you can
Some notable ones I like:
https://lemm.ee/c/internetisbeautiful
https://lemmy.world/c/creepywikipedia
Mainly because of learning cool and interesting stuff, and sites.
Also check out for more communities;
I wasn’t sure how to get these without typing them out. I just used the share link feature. I am using boost for lemmy
Try writing “!” followed by a community name, see if it autocompletes. That’s how it works in lemmy-ui.

[email protected]. Because it just started and needs contributing artists.
Hehe, fart
[email protected] is the best gaming community on Lemmy IMO, it’s extremely chill there and has no “gamer” brainworms.
Absolutely adore your pfp
Thanks!
I might be biased, but I really like [email protected]. Really fun posting about the wonderful qualities of a good stick.
(FYI, I’m the mod, if you don’t want self promotion, I can delete this. But I do think the community is great)
I was just there before coming to this thread. Glad to see the stick community is alive and well.
So that community is great, subscribed.
On a similar “I went for a walk, check out this cool blank I found” vibe, does anyone know of an equivalent one for rocks?
I know rockhounds used to be a thing on Reddit but I haven’t come across a Lemmy equivalent yet?
I haven’t seen anything, but let me know if you find anything or make one, sounds fun.
i’m your stereotypical reddit trio: tech, politics & shiposting/memes so i do communities like badposting or us news & politics and linux and i prefer these over the alternatives because of the engagement.
[email protected] for it’s weekly challenge (voting on the week end)
[email protected] (because it’s educational)
Not this community, because nobody follows the rules of it anymore and just treat it as the default/catch-all community, posting any old thing.
ITT: people who don’t know how federated links work. I’m not joining your instance or searching your recommendation on my own.
@[email protected] because the masters tools will never be used to dismantle his own house.
@[email protected] because fuck 60+ streaming services
@[email protected] because fuck 60+ streaming services
edit: looks like even ! links aren’t standardised. What an absolute shit show.
Your links don’t work with Sync. Everyone else’s do.
sounds like a sync issue. federated links don’t direct you away from your instance so you can actually interact with the communities being linked to no matter what activity pub software you’re using.
Lemmy users have a bad habit of using local links which are next to useless unless you’re on the same instance.
Shouldn’t the ‘@’ at the start of those be ‘!’ instead? I thought ‘@’ was for users and ‘!’ for Communities
! is a lemmy thing and sends you to the original url, @ is a fediverse thing and sends you to the linked community on your own instance so you can actually interact with it.
Voyager tries to send me to the user with that id, not the community. It seems there are differences.
! links worked on multiple mobile apps (at least Eternity and Thunder) for me, can’t say the same of the @ kind
! Works for all Lemmy apps but @ doesn’t
Ah ok, right on
They also do not work in Voyager and in the browser they are not even links
I’m on Voyager and sh.itjust.works, and they’re still not working for me, lol

first time I’ve ever, and I mean ever, seen ! not link off site.
in fact this thread is a total shit show of apps implementing it differently.
if @ isn’t working for everyone I’ll stop using it because it actually working was the whole point.
testing plz ignore: [email protected] @[email protected] [email protected] @[email protected]
@ doesn’t even link on lemmy, that’s funny. and single return doesn’t format correctly, what is this reddit 2.0?
