I use my Deck when I travel ( which is all the time). I bust that thing out on the plane, on public transit and in my hotel room. I literally do not care what people think of me by doing so.
I travel for work quite a bit and always take my Deck with me. Not only is it great in the airport and on the the plane, but then when I get to the hotel I can often hook it up to the tv.
2 weeks ago I was in Podunk, Ky for the week and got over 50 hours of Rocket League in from my hotel bed.
What a save!
Used to travel for work and a switch at the time with BotW was a life saver for entertainment after work for the days we didn’t have some work get together planned (those were mostly Thursdays or Fridays). I have really good memories of that game.
I remember a work contact tipped me off on when they would be arriving to the target near work (he knew one of the people working there). Thankfully they were not being scalped enough and you could still find them for retail prices on that area.
I take my film camera with me and explore the places I’m at with nothing to do. Just gotta invest in a good, light, as small as possible tripod for night shooting already.
Excuse you that is my emotional support Switch. It helps me feel better knowing I have the option to play if shit goes sideways, and tbf it has a couple times and those games came in handy to pass the time.
It’s like part of having a Swiss army knife or a first aid kit; if the day goes well you don’t need it but it helps way more if you have it on hand ¯\(ツ)/¯
I mean tbf the majority of the time I use my Deck is on the train.
I have a Switch I play mostly on trains and airplanes.
Yeah, I use it mostly while traveling. It might come out a few times at the destination if I’m traveling for work or to my hometown but thankfully it never really comes out when I’m actually on vacation.
I bought my steam deck for my first vacation out of state. 6 hour flight.
You better be damn sure I played games on the flight.
Played for 3-4 hours on each flight. Then set it up on my TVs at home. Docking stations on living room and bedroom TVs. Move it as needed.
I don’t touch it often, but it’s there when I want/need it.
Last played when I had the flu.I see the other side - if I’m not using my SteamDeck, it’s because I’m having a good enough time with the ‘real world’.
I’ve taken my Deck on travels, but mostly taken it out to show to friends.
I just bring my switch to play when I visit my mom, no PC there and I play on the couch next to her

I feel attacked. I bought one these gamepads where you put your phone in. Loaded the phone up with bunch of emulators and roms. I havent used it it public but once. I cant stomach outing myself as a 30+ gAmEr in public. Its a me problem and i should just give less of a fuck but i simply cant.
The only time someone has said anything to me about my playing my Deck in public was a guy who had an Asus portable and wanted to chat about it.

Do you look at gamers in their 30s and think negative things?
I think a big part of the problem for 30s+ gamers is that we grew up hearing how gaming = lazy bums, and it’s hard to break away from that. I think in company of other gamers it’s cool, but you still expect non-gamers to judge you
Kinda why I’m not jumping to get a Steam Deck. I have a desktop, and I already know if I had the deck it would almost never get used outside my apartment anyway, since I’d never actually have time for it.
Now if I was still a kid with no responsibility and didn’t have to drive myself, it would be a different story. That story being I still wouldn’t have a deck because I wouldn’t have money and my parents wouldn’t buy it for me. 😩
I’ve just got a tiny retro gaming console and it’s great to make the most of tiny time gaps. Really need to make a whole post about it.

It’s been so good. I sit at my desk and neglect my gaming PC and Steam Deck to play this thing. 2 weeks later I’m still in the honeymoon phase with it.
I brought my steamdeck to a boys weekend away. We used it to play a few games here and there at 3am as we’re winding down for bed in our Jammies.
Idk I get a lot of use from my Switch Lite when I travel. When I’m home I just play on my ps5.
I’ve done this. Brought a switch with me on a longer vacation only to never touch it. At least I learned a lesson and stopped bringing it.
I bought a switch. Then I almost never used it, since if I’m gaming I’m at my PC.
I’ll likely never buy another portable console simply for the fact that I don’t have a use for it. Many do, I’m just not one of them
I mean, yeah, mostly I use portables at home, but I do bring them with me. It’s a 50-50 chance whether I overcome the social awkwardness of pulling out a game system in a packed train or plane, but… you know, hotels are a thing.
The real question is which handheld do you bring with you. Pre-pandemic it was the Switch or the 3DS. When I had a long train commute me and my friends got into Mario Kart DS on local multiplayer for a while. When I was alone I did tend to carry a PSP, which at the time was also my media player of choice. By the time I moved to PC handhelds from the aging Switch I wasn’t really travelling, but the couple times I did the Deck seemed a bit too large and I do have a smaller Windows handheld I can use instead. Smaller retro emulation handhelds are cute and portable, but a bit too limited. A couple times I packed a controller to go with my laptop.
