As title states, obviously also looking for it to work on Linux. Do these even exist anymore?

Xonotic is somewhat fun, but crowded deathmatch servers (not team deathmatch, simply deathmatch) are kind of chaotic. If you find people on matrix spaces you may get some people to play it with you too:)

Try Counter-Strike: Source. A bit older but it’s still quite active, runs flawlessly on Linux and is just a load of fun.

Haha I know what you mean. I’ve had some good sessions but generally speaking, I suck at it.

If you search which are selfhostable you’ll find your answer. The selfhosting newsletter had their poll results recently and it included what games people host most often.

Battlebit Remastered is my first thought, feels like Battlefield and looks like Roblox/Minecraft. It’s fun and plays well and has community servers which were active last time I played.

Disclaimer: does have Easy Anticheat software

I feel like I missed the boat on this one. The player base seems to have sharply fallen off since there hasn’t been any updates and it’s still in early access. It might still be worth checking out though, thanks!

I wish Destiny 2 didn’t remove Linux compatibility, I’d give it a try again despite the apparent dumpster fire.

Quake3 and Overload (only sortof FPS) are the ones I play. Both have plenty of community servers and also community games. And both have linux native versions that run without wine. I’m by no means an expert in this area nor do I have a vast knowledge of what people play these days. Just sharing what I like.

    Not quite first person…

This is my favorite. You will start out by getting crushed by absolutely everyone but it is called GunZ the Duel. The community server is called Freestyle GunZ at fgunz.net. Dm me if you sign in and I will show you the ropes.

What’s good about it? When this first came out this was right after smash melee and it was the most competitive PC game ever. We would log in every day around 2005 and just blast away for hours. Now, the sense of community is really strong, since there are only a 1000 or so players around the world.
