Israel’s foreign minister has said that an arms embargo on his country would lead to the elimination of the Israeli state and “a second Holocaust”.

Gideon Saar was speaking on Tuesday at an international conference on antisemitism in Jerusalem.

Fuck you, israel is a state based on genocide of everyone living around. So don’t bring back the Holocaust card. It was terrible, but has nothing to do with wiping out whole country of Palestine, so they can implant more religious jewish fanatics instead.

The eliminiation of the Israeli state doesnt have to cause a second holocaust. Just go back to where you, your parents and your grandparents lived before you invaded other peoples homes.

I’m firmly against the Palestinian genocide, but, isn’t this a little ridiculous? Shouldn’t we just focus on ending the killings and stopping further colonization?

Like, as a 4th generation Canadian, do I need to go back to Ireland to make up for my great great grandparent’s generation’s gross history of colonial genocide?

You don’t need to evict Jewish people to end Zionism.

The difference is that there are quite a lot of Palestinians alive today who had their homes stolen, and Israel keeps stealing more everyday. And they do it because they have always been allowed to keep what they stole in the past.

Yeah, so give Palestinians right of return. There’s plenty of land there to share. Make Israelis pay reparations.

Like how is the land I’m living on not functionally stolen? My entire country used to be Indigenous land, and it became as it is because it was “allowed” (forced).

The Jewish children who were born there aren’t colonists, and they shouldn’t have to suffer for their parents’ colonial acts.

The main imperative is to end the ongoing colonialism and genocide.

Yeah, so give Palestinians right of return.

That would require expelling a huge number of Israelis, given they literally live in stolen houses. One in every ten Israelis lives in illegal West Bank settlements

            Make Israelis pay reparations.

That would require defeating Israel in a war.

Like how is the land I’m living on not functionally stolen?

It is, but at least you didn’t literally steal your literal house from a person who is still alive today…

The Jewish children who were born there aren’t colonists

And the Israeli colonists currently driving people out of their houses to take them over and have children there know that you think this, which is why they’re stealing land in such a way as to make a Palestine state impossible without kicking them out.

The main imperative is to end the ongoing colonialism and genocide.

Which is impossible while the illegal settlements remain.

Its really not ridiculous. Imagine if the west still kept all its african colonies that were captured during WW2 times. Thats what Israel is, only that it is even younger. Basically all of its jewish population is either first or second generation immigrants/settlers.

I think you’re misunderstanding their point, it’s very different from African colonies because the entirety of their country isn’t made up of children of refugees.

Their point is a fair one that you didn’t address at all, are you really expecting them all to move somewhere else? How is that at all feasible in your mind? I’m American, I have no fucking clue where I “came from” if someone said the US needs to broken up and sent back to where they “came from”.

I think the recency of your countries colonization does make a big difference. The US is 250 years old, Israel is 77 years old.

I have no fucking clue where I “came from”

25% of Israelis are fresh settlers that were born elsewhere (so they know where they came from)
Most of the rest have parents that are also settlers

The entire concept of Israel is to be an ever growing colony which spends billions of dollars trying to convince every jewish person in the world that Israel is the only place in the world where they are safe. As a consequence Israels population has grown 900% since its inception and that growth has only been accelerating. The vast majority of Israelis are not refugees, they are religiously attracted. The official plan of the settlers is to colonize the entire region including Lebanon, the West Bank and parts of Syria.

People really need to understand that this crisis is entirely manufactured and intended. The only solution is the dissolution of the Israeli government and a complete change of course. The Israeli population will never do that, because they support the genocide so that only leaves heavy sanctions on Israel or invasion.

stop feeding the monster. stop financing them, stop buying their products and services. a nonviolent solution seems best and the IsraElis will move without too much pressure. problem is that their leaders run or pressure leaders in the west. so the ugliness will go on for decades or centuries more.

If you wanna understand more about how they get so many young people to move to Israel (especially from the US) i recommend this documentary that talks a lot about Israels “outreach programs” (read ideological/military recruitment programs) that embed themselves into schools and universities to intercept jewish kids before they make any contact with people critical of Israel.

I wonder if we can find a new way of describing the notion of “Israel existing.” It seems opponents believe we mean killing the occupants of Israel or (somehow removing the area entirely) rather than reforging the state itself. It’s not like we don’t want the geographical region to continue existing.

Israel has to become something. It can’t stay the way it is.

Allowing it to become Palestine again is just the compromise position.

Good point. Still, “not having the right to exist” sounds to me – and more importantly, to those undecided on the issue – like it’s encouraging the destruction of the things that are in Israel, not the entity of Israel itself. Which is obviously not a take that’s likely to attract support.

It doesn’t sound like that to me at all? What about that phrase signals anything about the destruction of anything except the entity of Israel? Outside of the way it’s propagandized against which would happen to any phrase.

You are probably very steeped in theory, and such words have a precise meaning to you. That’s awesome btw that you read and think about this a lot, but the people we need to advertise to don’t.

“destroy israel,” “israel doesn’t have the right to exist” and so on just sound to me like a call to evict israelis from the land. I have seen people on lemmy make this exact inference. A common response is “but what you want is also genocide,” indicating that people think those phrases really mean physically destructive action.

That’s why I say it has a right to become Palestine. It will still exist, sort of, but in a revolutionary new form.

                And Israelis can become Palestinians.

Assuming they aren’t just settlers that moved there recently to steal land, of course.

if the world was fair, that tract of land in the middle east would become palestine, jewish immigrants would be allowed to live there and have full citizenship and rights, but a nice chunk of territory would be carved out of central or eastern europe to make “settlerania”.

What Israel has a right to do is not relevant. America has the right to become part of Canada. Israel remaining as it is is the problem – and more to the point, the problem is that people don’t see that as the problem.

    Second holocaust?

Dude, you are committing the second holocaust, so that technically would be the third.

Having said that, aren’t you kind of the reason why that would happen in the first place? Israel has had more than enough opportunities to make peace with everyone around it a hundred times over and so far all it has done is investing in making sure that shit got worse, like actually funding Hamas so that they could fight Hamas harder.

You dug your own grave here, I won’t push you in it, but I also won’t cry for you if you decide to jump in it

They can all fuck right off. There is so much I’d like to say but I cannot because I will be accused of inciting violence. Funny how Right wing and zionist incitement is allowed on social media, but when anyone left leaning says anything immediate bans. I’m hoping something of biblical proportions happens in Israel. Maybe it will turn into a self fulfilling prophesy, anyway, these are words, I can’t encourage anyone other than any gods out there to rain sulfer and all that. I sympathise with the left wing Jews in Israel, but unfortunately, the genocide continues and this is their governement. Much like Maga now is, like it or not, the face of America, well Genocide is now the face of Israel.
