Interesting. Seems that most the failures are the breaks because the pads get rusty with non-use because of the regenerative breaking. The Tesla manuals say to use the breaks fully every once in a while, but of course people don’t read the manual. And it just make then grunchy - they work fine. The suspension issues are real and I think the problem is that they start to go but it’s not obvious. Tesla will change them in warranty no problem but you have to notice the extra play and sounds, which is quite subtle. I wish we had annual safety inspections in Canada, they only do that for older cars.

Sounds like a good system. But I guess it only works if people pay attention to the blacklist so it’s a good threat since it’s not enforceable. I haven’t heard of Tesla not honoring drivetrain issues under warranty here in Canada. They wouldn’t do a second windshield replacement on my wife’s T3 because what they said was evidence of a rock chip, but that was kinda fair.

The cars since 2020 have been decent quality. What you are paying for is an EV with good range and good power. Tesla definitely pushed the U.S. ev adoption ahead by a number of years.
I’m curious about how that board works - is it a judicial system that other car manufacturers follow? What kind of rulings have they made against Tesla? I found that Tesla follows their own warranty quite well, and after that I don’t think any a car manufacturers will fix stuff for free.
And what support do you expect to get regarding insurance? You can buy a bew car like anyone, can’t you?

It’s definitely what’s in there now. It was a noticeable improvement when the change happened last year. The main thing for me was that it can now do round abouts! But I don’t really let it drive in anything but simple situations as it’s easier to drive than to monitor it.

I’ve actually driven one quite a lot and as a software engineer myself, I think it’s amazing what they’ve accomplished. But it’s certainly not ready to be unsupervised, and except on a near empty highway, I find it more work/stress to supervise it rather than just drive myself. Elon is an asshole and a liar and ill never buy another tesla while he’s a shareholder, but the T3 is quite an amazing product.

Ai can use that info too. And it doesn’t get distracted, or drink beer. Self driving cars have the potential to be much safer than humans. We don’t seem to be there yet, but we will be eventually if we don’t block progress.

Yes it is a questionable decision. But I think it wasn’t just being cheap. I think it’s because of liability for errors; when it comes to placing fault on a car in the legal system, a judge / jury is only going to look at video captures. They won’t understand the lidar data. So if the car makes a bad decision based on lidar when there’s a conflict with visual queues, it will be deemed that it made a mistake. So there’s not really any point to trying to work with the lidar data.

So would plenty of human drivers.

Versions of this I’ve seen prototyped had a laser between two mirror strips so it zigzagged back and forth left and right as it went from about 10’ up to the ground. The span between the mirrors was about 50’. It had a low-power always-on laser and the detector would correlate the signal with the frequency of a mosquito buzz. So if there was a mosquito anywhere on the laser path it would detect that, and then turn of a powerful laser pulse on the same path that would fry the mosquito. By putting a few of these in a line, a mosquito wall was made and it significantly reduced the mosquito population. This was in Ghana where they don’t actually have that many mosquitos - nothing like northern Ontario, just the occasional one. But they carry malaria there so it is very beneficial to kill them.
