The best way to do it is the same way you learned your primary language. Learn just enough through study to be able to use a little bit of the language, and then actually start using it.

Talk with people who speak it, and learn to read and write all over again. Sound like a tourist for a couple years as you pick up more and more. Eventually you’ll be fluent.

This is a shockingly common view of this movie. In fact, most media that features a villain protagonist tends to have this problem. Look at Breaking Bad, Fight Club, or American Psycho.

They present the reasons why the villain makes the decisions they do, in a way that is sympathetic to the audience, then it turns into a bit of a power fantasy before their fall at the end. A lot of people seem to look at the power fantasy portion as fighting against an unjust world, rather than an abuse of normal people.

This is at best, misleading and completely wrong at worst. An LLM is completely different from a human mind. It’s a mathmatical model that finds the average of any given input against a massive dataset.

Video games are worse and get worse as they run 100% constant and are constantly evolving, not short bursts or getting more efficient over time like AI.

This is a completely made up statistic dreamed up from the thought of “people use computers at home, so why is that different than a datacenter?” The thing is, those datacenters dont run in short bursts, they run constantly, as long as there is money to be made. And while the hardware does get more efficient as new developments are made, that improvement doesn’t offset the resource usage, it just improves density of compute.

Absolutely unhinged opinion that could only come from someone incapable of empathy. There is a worldwide cost of living crisis happening right now. Anything that makes life worse for a regular person, while offering almost no benefit to anyone outside the top of this boondoggle is to be hated.

More accurate than humans -especially humans on social media

Another completely made up statistic based on nothing. Yes, misinformation on social media is a problem in modern society, but those people are not being treated as subject matter experts. AI is often being treated that way, despite working from flawed data that distills assumption into fact by way of some reddit comment or retracted paper.

What’s the weather like under that rock where you live? AI is not replacing the backbreaking labor of harvesting vegetables, it’s not clearing sewer pipes, or pumping septic tanks. It’s being used to (poorly) replace artists, engineers, and writers. The work that people actually want to do.

AI is a tool. The user of the tool should be the one that carries responsibility. I don’t have the stats, but I imagine that most jobs that relied on hand tools suffered more injury when power tools were introduced, but again, it’s up to the person using the tool to use it responsibly.

Granted, thats not a perfect analogy because AI definitely doesn’t present the same marked improvements as power tools, but the responsibility of the user doesn’t change.

As others have said, light exercise is okay at pushing the feeling down. Anecdotally, a change in scenery also helps me when I get that way. Go for a walk somewhere you haven’t been before and see what’s there.

Also the 54321 rule seems to help ground me if I feel myself start to spiral.

I also have this problem, but for me it’s an ADHD stimulation thing. On a screen, you can take breaks between reading large passages by switching between tasks

With books, thats a lot harder to do. The thing that fixed it for me was switching to audiobooks. That means now I can “read” while driving, or doing the dishes, or cooking.

Computers are really dumb, so when one computer wants to talk to another computer, they need an established set of rules about how each message will be sent and what to do with it when it gets received.

For IP, it’s mostly about how data is packaged and shipped. It has rules about how much data can be sent in a single message, some information about where the message is going and where it came from, whether or not they expect a reply, and then finally the block of data itself.

However, inside that block of data, there will be some more information about what that data is, so that the receiving computer knows what to do with it. This is where applications like activitypub do their work.

Honestly, just starting any activity is the hardest part. Find something you want to try, and just force yourself to do it. If you like it, then keep going. If not, maybe the hobby isn’t what you imagined.

It was a bit like that with the Zero as well. All those tools existed as separate packages, and some were bundled, but the complete feature set and the form factor made it the best wireless signal analysis tool on the market.

If it’s easy enough to get access to your cloud infrastructure by just changing some metadata about the connection, then you really should re-think your authentication systems. If I were to publish the exact model and pinning of the lock on my house, it would be silly of me to be mad that someone used that to make their own keys.

Cosmic still has some issues, but it’s pretty easy to install another DE and use that instead.

Pop is still my goto for desktops because it has good hardware compatibility and it’s easy to use.

Is this only true in speech? Japanese as an example is much more dense in text than English and can convey more information in fewer written characters.

But, those characters take longer to write and often have multisyllabic pronunciation, so speech would be unaffected.

PSA for anyone that might have a PSP sitting in a box somewhere:

Go and check on the battery and make sure it hasn’t turned into a spicy pillow. Out of a sample size of 3 between mine and a couple friends, 2 of 3 were bursting out of the shell and required disposal.

If your PSP battery is still good, look into charging it and playing some PS1 games on the go. It was the best feature of the console.

People in Utah could still access with a VPN, but never would, because that would be against the law.

I have probably clocked hundreds of hours into Gauguin. It’s a sudoku-esque puzzle game about filling numbers in a grid. It keeps my quick math sharp.

Also, it might be a bit on the intense side of casual, but Balatro is probably the best mobile game ever made.
