Minecraft@lemmy.world•Is there a way to convert Wii U worlds to Java without Windows?English
1·5 months agoI don’t have Switch edition, and it’s my understanding that unless you have it on a cartridge you can only get Bedrock edition for Switch now. It’s cool that Chunker supports Linux tho.

Minecraft@lemmy.world•Is there a way to convert Wii U worlds to Java without Windows?English
5·5 months agoIt’s worth saying for the handful of people who don’t know about Wine.
I haven’t messed with my Wii U in months so i’ve mostly just focused on trying to back up my worlds to my computer in any form. I do plan to try MCC Tool Chest with Wine, but i also thought i’d ask if people know of any solution that works better or easier on Linux.
It still surprises me that there’s apparently so little overlap between people who prefer Linux over Windows and people who hack their consoles.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•When and how often do you update your system?English
2·5 months agoI run
apt update && apt upgradeevery few days at slowest, or whenever i want to install or remove something with apt. That’s Debian.I’m pretty sure the only programs on my computer that automatically update are those by Mozilla, since i don’t know how to stop them.
Debian is known for being very stable so i trust that when it tells me to do a system update i should, and so far nothing has broken except what i break.
Usually i only don’t use the latest version of something if either the latest version is worse than an older version (KiCAD seems to get less usable over time, from what i know) or the latest version isn’t available to me for some reason (PolyGlot has unsatisfyable dependencies so i use an old version).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's with companies naming things "MyNoun"?
3·6 months agoI’ve been using Linux for so long i’d almost forgotten Windows does that. Just calling it “Documents” and not having to worry about a space in the file path breaking things is so much easier.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•do most people really like the taste and smell of eggs?
2·6 months agoI don’t always like the smell. I work as a line cook and sometimes have to handle hard boiled eggs that come pre-cooked in bags. They always smell strongly of sulphur when i open a bag and it’s put me off eggs a bit, especially boiled eggs.
Fried eggs are fine. If they have a smell i can’t tell over the spices and butter i cook them in. They don’t taste especially good to me but they’re easy protein that i can cook in the morning for breakfast. They don’t taste bad either, but i only very rarely eat eggs on their own with no other foods.

Linux@lemmy.ml•(Debian) How do i find links for apt repositories?
1·6 months agoThings were mostly broken (i couldn’t get fluxbox to start) until i used tasksel to install Cinnamon so i could use a browser to look some stuff up (i only have one computer). I removed Cinnamon but whatever it left behind fixed my system enough that i’m now typing this in LibreWolf with not too many weird graphical issues. Some stuff doesn’t work at all yet, like my laptop’s function keys for things like brightness and volume.
So all in all, better than i thought this might go.

Linux@lemmy.ml•(Debian) How do i find links for apt repositories?
1·6 months agoThank you for that last bit. “Just do it” out to be the advice i needed.
One piece of potentially helpful information i think you forgot is, what is your controller?

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•What software tools do you use that are gaming related?English
2·9 months agoHard to say, i’ve never used reWASD. There’s another program called Input Remapper that i haven’t used for games but which is supposed to be like AntiMicroX but for keyboard, mouse, and gamepad inputs and outputs going both ways. So i can make my keyboard an Xbox controller, my Wii U controller a keyboard, my mouse a pair of DK Bongos probably, and so on. But i don’t know how to make it work without sudo access (apparently some programs need that and some don’t to mess with inputs) so i don’t like using it.

1·9 months agoSome people don’t like Steam running in the background. My last computer was so weak it couldn’t run light weight games through Steam because of the extra resource usage.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•What controllers are good?English
3·10 months agoCemu isn’t the only game that breaks with this controller, and if i could just set right stick right to C stick right, i wouldn’t have ever noticed this issue for Cemu. I’ll bear this in mind though if every Linux build of every game i’m interested in playing announces support for DS4 though.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•[Help] Can i disable controller input in Hollow Knight?English
2·10 months agoI’m using AntiMicroX. This doesn’t work though. Hollow Knight picks up on the controller pretty soon after it’s plugged in. Sounds like Steam Input will be my best option for now.
