There is no amount of civilians that beat the US military. You could gather 100% of the “ive got guns to fight the government” crowd, and they wouldnt do shit against tanks, helicopters, and jets… a mob is going to die unless there is an insurrection in the ranks of the people who control the equipment.
This has always been my point when people say “back in the good ol days” or “Make America great again” or any other nonsense about how it used to be better… this is pretty much the best it has ever been! Even with the dipshit in office at the moment, it has pretty much always been greedy dipshits in control… we are raising the best generation to date in terms of nutrition being provided, the most inclusive in terms of race/gender/sexual preference… all we can do is hope we continue to make gradual improvement. People have always sucked. The elite have always raped and pillaged the poor… but there is less of that now than any time in history… slavery and depravity have been a part of history since we started recording history. I just cross my fingers and try to enlighten the young in my field of influence to be good humans and hope that some day we might not be as horrible as we have always been.

Lemmy has the feel to me that reddit did back in the day. I can only imagine as lemmy gets more popular and becomes big enough for big tech to take notice, that it will become consumed by the same garbage reddit has. Lemmy just isnt big enough yet for them to try and consume.

Americans are hardworking too, but the American government is not actively working to support those hardworking Americans, which is the difference… the average American is working their ass off to earn less than ever to add wealth to the small percentage of ultra wealthy in power here. There are sanctions, tarriffs, and subsidies here, but the vast majority of them benefit the top of the pyramid, while leaving the majority to struggle.
Most doors that are controlled for handicap accessability are control using a hydraulic cylinder that costs hundreds of dollars, and not a motor. Any motorized doors cost way way more than that.
I had the same thought when I was younger about putting generators attached to a bouy in the ocean, which has waves constantly and would generate power all day. Just like your door idea, it would work and would make power, but it wouldnt turn a profit. Its too expensive for the output you would get in return. So… yeah… we are gonna continue to burn fossil fuels for now cause its the cheapest… once we deplete enough of them that it gets more expensive than something else, we will switch to that until we destroy the world, or skynet takes over and we become the next power source.
Ok, as an “arms bearer,” my answer is this. The laws allowing us to bear arms were written when those arms were equivalent or close to the top military technology. 100 armed civilians while untrained, would be similarly equppied to 100 soldiers. These days if 100 armed civilians tried to act in a coordinated armed effort against our government, it would only be a very short matter of time before they were declared terrorist and overwhelmed by billions of dollars of military hardware and equipment they have no way of competing with. That is of course with the exception of jan 6th where said coordinated attack was coordinated by trump, and therefore allowed to happen.
That all being said, I am an “arms bearer” because I used to hunt, and was never one to claim I had guns to possibly overthrow our corrupt as hell government.

We had water bottles way before plastic… we used wood, mud, clay, stone, and animal parts to store water before recorded history…
Thats the problem though. I know those places still exist, but the 10-20 minutes a day I have to browse the internet isnt enough to find and verify those places, so the internet is just dead to me. Also the latest generation is growing up with the “dead internet,” so many of them dont know that a better internet once existed and still exists in tiny isolated pockets that are getting harder and harder to find without a guide.
