Going to second dream_weasel’s suggestion. Don’t try to game in a VM. That is going the ultra-hard route while you are still unfamiliar with the OS.
My suggestion is to take a side/old computer you don’t use every day, format it, and install Linux on it. Completely blow away Windows on that machine. Then use it regularly until you get comfortable with it. You still have your main computer to lean on.
Once you are comfortable enough with it, flip the script. Put Linux on the main machine and Windows on the side/old machine. You will find yourself turning on the side/old machine less and less.

Shelf-stable food is almost permanently good to eat. The dates mean very little to nothing.
Dried food can go bad if it gets wet, regardless of the date.
Canned food can go bad if the can is pierced, regardless of the date.
Crackers/chips will slowly go stale, date here is more of a freshness thing than a safety thing.
I have personally logged two support tickets with Microsoft, support tickets that use paid-for tokens my company gets a limited number of per year. Even when providing a reproducible to Microsoft support, they just waste my time. Round and round goes the support ticket until I give up and they close the ticket. I have some friends who report the same experience.

At least swapping out an outlet and outlet cover is an easy and cheap fix if you are the owner. $6, 10 minute job (per outlet). I find jobs like that the easiest to do, as whenever I’m feeling like I need to accomplish something, I can go hit one or two.

A shitload of effort and material goes into building a home, a home will always be the single most expensive thing people own. The idea people won’t care about it is a fantasy.
Now, what you do tend to get is people who settle down and pick a single home to live in the rest of their lives. Those bend more and more to the owner’s preferences. It’s easier to justify a $xxx,xxx renovation when you will live in the home for decades to come.
Universities have more clout, generally higher admission standards, generally talked about more, all resulting in more desirability. They translate this desirability into higher admission costs as people are willing to pay. This also lets them build out more facilities and advertise more, further reinforcing the cycle.
I’m not sure how they compare to schools abroad, but Community Colleges in the US are significantly cheaper than Universities in the US. It might be worth looking into those.

You have to remember that the US is like 50 not-so-little countries. You get very large variations between them.

You can sometimes find an old home that has a bunch of that done well, but to keep it affordable, it probably looks bad and needed a sand and refinish 30 years ago, which puts a ton of buyers off as they are buying a very visible, labor-intensive project.

Having the drivers installed is fine and, quite frankly, good; for exactly the reason you point out. When they aren’t being used they are only taking up disk space. And that is OK, nobody is particularly upset with Windows’ disk space.
It is the RAM usage, telemetry, and other running processes that just don’t need to be running. These are the things that make a Windows setup so bloated. One doesn’t need to reach out and tell MS every time you open the start menu, one doesn’t need Candy Crush and One Drive ads appearing in the OS. There is no good way to turn all that off. That is just using resources and making the OS worse for users.
8GB should be fine for Windows 11. However, the OS is so bloated that it simply isn’t.
Microsoft should fix that.
Firefox with Ublock Origin is pretty much the gold standard. But, it likely won’t do terribly better. Modern webpages are big.
You need to either Linux to get the OS RAM usage down or get another 4gb in there. Both would help a ton.
