I bought an Asus Zenbook 14 about a year ago, specifically for immediately installing linux on it and doing some light gaming (I also have a linux desktop)

It has been surprisingly good. When the windows setup launched, the fans were spinning up loudly. I wiped the laptop and installed NixOs. Suddenly the fans went quiet, and I got an estimated battery life of around 11 hours with light usage, excellent.

It has an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS CPU with 780M graphics. I was surprised at what you can run on this. Even Elden Ring was working smoothly on low to medium settings. And the laptop weighs around 1.2kg. I found it even more practical to carry around than my steam deck. (which I’ve sold)

Overall pretty great experience. Planning to build an Egpu to connect to the USB4 ports so I can add a bit of extra horsepower with an external GPU when needed.

I don’t even listen to music on a regular basis when I’m inside. It’s more something I would do actively from time to time, say a couple of times per month.

That would be a miracle

I actually played Noita before. I though I was doing pretty good by myself, managed to get quite deep. Then somebody told me about the outside map and all the parallel worlds and wow…

I think knowledge gated games are good, but not when there is no actual in-game method to discover the things you need to progress.

Awareness is only one part of mindfulness, you already got that, which is great.

The other part is equanimity, being aware of things, but not reacting or judging.

When you practice mindfulness, try to set a time goal of how long you want to do it and stick to it no matter what. If there are suddenly loud noises, or you suddenly feel very hungry, or you suddenly remember something important for work, just stick with the time you set. It’ll get easier over time.

Doing it frequently definitely helps with hyper-vigilance and being overly aware of things.

If you’re still interested to try and meet people, I would suggest still trying to meet up or go to locations with a bunch of people and check yourself.

How do you feel there, what do you notice, what makes you feel tired?

Very often you’ll find yourself overly alert, overly self concious, or simply not used to the experience. These all drain energy.

Try again and notice if it changes. Keep trying.

There are still people out there which aren’t zombified yet. And it’s still worth the effort to try and seek them out.

In the future, actual hacking will just involve social engineering corporate ai systems ( aka prompt hijacking )

I haven’t had any issues thus far. But I have not used a lot of appimages. Usually I can find everything in nixpkgs, and those that I didn’t all worked with appimages.

This command will just run an executable file on nix. Normally only executables which are installed from the package manager will work.

appimage-run is another option. Which can be used to run, you guessed it, appimages

Using a language server like nixd also helps a lot with auto completing packages and options in your config.

Apparently people are also working on the nickel configuration language to address some of the nix limitations and difficulties.

notify-send 'command finished!' works pretty well

Try Readest, open source, works on android, ios, linux, etc. Has syncing of books and highlights/notes. Still in active development though.
