As a low income white boy from Queens myself, I can say with confidence yes they totally exist. I can’t speak for the rest of the country but in NYC there are a bunch of public/free magnet schools, that you get into on merit alone. Many years ago I tried to get into Bronx science high school but my grades weren’t good enough, so I ended up having to go to a standard NYC public high school.
Yes. This is my habit as well. I feel weird for the opposite reason as OP as I’m a guy who doesn’t do it daily if not several times a day. I guess I could technically, but do I really have the time and energy for it?
Some of the countries with the large percentages of vegetarians, vegans or predominantly plant forward diets such as India or South East Asia are not wealthy by Western standards. Eating a ‘healthy’ plant forward diet does not have to be an expensive affair.
The perception that a plant based diet is a wealthy western modern invention is white washing its unglamorous origins as a traditional eastern diet, especially in Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, etc cultures.
To dismiss a plant forward diet because not everyone can afford to eat impossible burgers 7x a week is disingenuous, as people were eating diets with little to no meat for centuries before faux ‘beuf’ plant minces were invented.
I think you are looking at this from the wrong perspective, I think you are discounting sexual selection as a basis of why humans have long hair. I suspect the advantage is less this helps me to survive, and more this helps me to find a mate.
Another response pointed out the advantages of having dense curly hair and how and why we evolved with that, I think our ancestors used that starting point as a means of signaling health, youth, and vitality. And from there different hair types evolved as an expression of sexual selection.
We evolved to have heads of long thick hair because our ancestors found it attractive. And to this day it continues to be used (subconsciously or consciously) as a means of determining the sexual health of a potential mate.
If you think about it, when we get old or sick the hair is one of the first things to falter, not having a head of long thick hair doesn’t necessarily mean you are unhealthy, but it is also difficult to maintain a head of full shiny head of hair without having a level of health and vitality.
Tldr: I think to this day hair is used as an indicator of sexual health from a potential mate, having long, thick hair can signal that health from a distance, and would be a distinct advantage in spreading those genes.

I think the problem is that those who like to flaunt the second amendment as their patriotic civic duty are the same group that believes Trump can do no wrong. Until most of those fringe right wing militia types are convinced he has to go no action will be taken on their part.

My mother was the farthest thing from affectionate, my parents were divorced so my father wasn’t around that much when I was growing up.
I’m not sure “gentle” is the first word I would use to describe myself, but as an adult I’ve dedicated my life to adopting animals in need. Generally it’s hard to build trust with an animal if you do not have a “gentle” side.
Maybe it was the animals who taught me how they wanted to be treated, but I can sure as hell say it wasn’t my mother who taught me how to be warm and affectionate.

That said, your question is oddly phrased as I’m not entirely sure of the relevance of gen z or social media. But at its core it sounds like you are asking are death bed confessions prosecutable?
According to Google yes it’s technically possible. But in the scenario you are discussing, where someone is potentially in hospice or in a hospital death bed confessing a crime at an extremely old age, I suspect nothing much would happen.
Often legal issues take a long time for anything to happen, they would have to reopen a case, start an investigation, see if they can find corroborating evidence, ect. Depending on the situation all they would have to go on all they might have is the confession itself and it may be difficult to prove this wasn’t some kind of confabulation of dementia.
Assuming they moved forward and the individual made it to trial (which very often can take many years), it’s doubtful that you would be able to find a jury willing to convict a 105+ year old person based upon potentially thin evidence.
So yes it’s technically possible, but I’m not sure it would be a worthwhile use of judicial resources and suspect it would very likely be swept under the rug.
I actually think you are on to something here as I feel like there will always be people who desire to be with a “real human”.
That said if they ever developed something like a holodeck in real life I can see it making a dent in the industry.
Like morally I’m completely fine with prostitution, although in practice consent is hugely important for me, and you can never be truly certain if they are being coerced into the practice by a pimp/madam/other extenuating circumstance. With a computer consent really becomes a non issue, and thus a little more “morally okay”.
One of the major flaws of the American voting system is the electrical college. It effectively means that for a large swath of Americans your vote doesn’t matter unless you are voting for whom the majority of your state also voted for. Especially during tight elections, everything boils down to having the deciding votes, in a handful of states, if not a handful of counties in the entire country.
In a country of 300+ million people, the votes of only a handful of people in a select few locations really matter.
Are you a blue voter in a deep red state? Sorry the electrical college will throw out your vote and go with the majority.
Are you an independent voter in a deep blue state? Sorry you might as well be throwing out your vote.
Thanks to the electoral college a keen candidate can work the system and set it up so they win with the majority of the electrical votes, but not the majority of the overall votes.
TLDR: The reason why a good number of Americans didn’t vote, was by DESIGN. The current system in America de-incentivizes a large portion of the population to vote. This was likely done on purpose. This also leaves the system wide open to manipulation, further de-incentivising, and thus compounding the problem.
Personally speaking I also lived through the 80’s and the 90’s but if you were to ask me to pick out the differences between the aesthetics from two photographs one from 2007 and one from 2017 I’d be hard pressed. If the images were taken on a consumer grade camera I’d probably focus on the differences in image resolution, but other than that I’d probably be hard pressed.
Now if you were to repeat the experiment with two images from 87 vs 97 oh yeah I’m confident I’d be able to figure out which decade things were from.
What I’m getting at is I’m not sure how much living through the eras really blunts our ability to perceive the differences between decades. If anything when watching period pieces with actors pretending to be in the 80’s or 90’s I feel like I’m acutely aware of the subtle tells that give away this wasn’t actually filmed in the past.
Agreed lemme is probably one of the most negative places on the Internet. I joined because I was hoping this place would grow to be a proper alternative for Reddit, with fun niche content, and its own culture of obscure inside jokes. Instead even after several years it still feels like we are the angry trolls living under reddit’s shadow.
One of the biggest things I’ve found that helped me avoid the politics was to leave lemme.world and fill my personal feed up with subscriptions to content that fits my interest. Politics has ways of working its way into content none the less, but at least I’ve got a fighting chance.
I really do believe lemme is going to struggle to find people who want to stick around unless it starts to embrace fun light hearted content. I’m not sure how we’d do that as a platform, but I do believe that’s one of the big reasons people will struggle to adopt this corner of the Internet as their own.
Same, this is literally the first I’ve heard about the natives just “giving up and making way” for the Europeans. I recall being taught about the trail of tears and how we forced them off their land by any means necessary. Then again I grew up in a liberal city on the East Coast so my experiences probably aren’t universal.

Keep in mind NYC is a different world than the rest of the country, but yeah I totally knew a bunch of people who were lower income who got accepted to magnet schools. In NYC at least, magnet schools are filled with TONS of lower income smart/gifted students. That part of Spider-Man was totally based on reality.
