To offer a trans point of view. For me every cis person wearing a pronoun pin or writing their pronouns in their mail signature or something is a win. It is normalised that way and a the pin or the pronouns in the signature are no longer a sign that the person using them is trans.

You don’t have to use their client (this is why I choose them over tuta) they provide a imap bridge (separate program to be installed locally). Works fine for me for the last few years. Just have to use their client on mobile but it works well enough.
I think the post was very naive but not actually a “I endorse everything what trump does” post. No one can know for sure but alternatives to proton are sparse and I didn’t see anything else like that after.
Alternative approach: I imported the mails to my new mail hoster and just archived the mbox files just in case. Can be done by installing a mail client temporarily to upload or some mail hosters provide an option to import from gmail (in my case that was proton)
Mh, yeah I see the possibility of using an open network in theory, but in practice I haven’t seen a open Wifi network in years (excluding business owned ones, but usually you need to confirm something there and can’t use them forever). So not sure how feasible that is. The more sinister option is done by Echo devices for example (that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Sidewalk), but also requires a second device nearby. Much more possible possible though, if similar devices are nearby. But that can’t be hidden anyway and it should be possible to check for that.
I feel like the best option to get the monitor network connected is still a secondary device and never using the built in firmware (and first checking if said device got things like you described).
A bit more technical details please. How do the connect to what? It sounds a bit like they can just magically connect via telepathy to their home base if you phrase it like that.

VPN to Argentinia or Canada or something like this works btw. Or using old.reddit.com not logged in (they will turn that off too). Redlib also works, but I guess it will break too when they turn off old.reddit.com.

Yeah hate that problem. Tend to just get the epub from “somewhere” and then buy the book and never download it (or donate to the author directly if they have that option). Saves a lot of time, but is ridiculous. I just want to read the book i just bought…

Not really specific. Quite some counties have regulations and protections for their workers. I want to point out that the “default” option shouldn’t be displayed as the norm, even if it is common, because it is the worst possible option. It normalises a situation which shouldn’t be normal (and can be fought).
There is no way to point out the differences without making an example. In this case I was able to use my own situation as an example, in other cases where I’m not in a so lucky situation, I would have used a more general one.
Not debating that this is not the case in other parts of the world (10 of 195 sounds also a bit arbitrary though. Would love to see some kind of data about that, but I guess it’s kind of a very specific question). Could have skipped the first sentence of my original post maybe.
