Files were already backed up at multiple locations. I wasn’t using cmd.exe to transfer files. I was using it to attempt to fix broken WiFi and touchpad drivers.
why would you need to run updates on the old systems at all?
Ask Microsoft.

When I was in the process transitioning my lab from Windows 10+11 to Linux Mint, I was spending more time in Windows’ cmd.exe attempting to debug issues introduced through Windows Update than the Linux Terminal.
This and .desktop files. Don’t forget your OS is already a launcher.
There’s [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]…

I use RSS to aggregate my aggregators because I don’t like my reading and commenting to be tied to a single platform

8GB is enough for Windows 11. Issues only arise if you open any applications while Windows is running.

I thought those were a waste of resources when that kind of feature debuted with Windows Vista, but I’m the kind of guy who runs Xfce with animations turned off, so…

You’d have to pay me to use that crap

Getting sick of all these Windows updates scheduled remote degradations

I browse the internet through RSS. You won’t convince me to go back to opening 100 different browser tabs just to keep track of all your walled gardens.

I generate my YouTube feeds through RSSHub which also uses the API, so its a bit more durable than the officially provided feeds
It also has options for filtering out shorts which is nice
I use LocalSend to transfer the files and play them on the iPhone with VLC. Only issue I have is the iOS file browser doesn’t like filenames or folders with special characters like é or ö.

Upgraded all my Win 10 machines to Linux so you’re spot on
All of the issues were caused by Windows. Switching them to Mint was seamless experience and everyone has been happier after the move.
You can get adapters to convert USB A to C. YMMV for that, though. I’m not the primary user of these computers, so I needed to make sure the trackpads were working properly.
