PPB is “Pig Pooping on Balls.” One of hexbear’s favorite reaction photos is a pig with testicles so large they stick out back, and the pig literally has some of its own poop resting on its gargantuan balls.

So I guess they have a list of users they see as helpless, ignorant pigs. Delightful bunch, those hexbears.

Saudi Arabia and Oman are both ruled by absolute monarchies that have cemented political control over their respective nations. Both countries have plenty of corruption and poverty, and the governments are shit, but at least things are stable and predictable for the populace.

Yemen has not found a stable political structure yet. Since throwing of British colonial rule in the 1960s (not the first foreign power to control the region, and surely not the last) Yemen has been in on-again off-again civil wars as various factions fight for control. Continued foreign intervention has not helped calm things down. The Yemeni people will continue to suffer as long as the fighting continues.

Oh, and Yemen’s aquifers are drying up. Yemen may become the first country in the world to literally run out of fresh water. That is not going to help anything.

The US has had a continuous and significant military presence in Kuwait since 1991. They have multiple bases in Al Jahra Governate. The whole world already knows where these bases are. You didn’t score some great gotcha against the US military.

Fuck Trump and fuck this stupid war with Iran. But even so, it’s shitty of you to fantasize about getting someone killed.

The value of a currency is not purely a function of supply. It changes based on the relative values of the things you can buy with it, including the relative values of alternate currencies. Human emotions play a large part, too. Simply coming up with a number for the inflation rate is a complicated and inexact exercise. Actively controlling inflation is even more difficult.

A little inflation is generally considered a good thing because it incentivizes people to spend their money rather than hoard it.

Wonder if I’m going to the good place or the bad place.

Otherwise, probably nothing different than I’m doing already.

If the Dems gain full control of the House and Senate, and if they have the collective will to start a mass impeachment campaign and weather the political fallout, then yes, they could remove a lot of Trump appointees. But given the state of American politics, I am not optimistic about either of those things happening.

The executive branch also appoints people to hundreds of positions (with approval of the Senate). Federal judges in particular have lifetime terms per the Constitution. This is absolutely a generational mess.

Nothing good can come of this.

It’s basically Word lite: very similar interface, with a stripped-down feature set that covers most basic needs. You should have no problem diving right in and writing CVs and cover letters.

If you have a Google account, Google Sheets Docs is free and probably does everything you need.

MS Office is also really easy to pirate.

In the broader world of politics, “liberal” usually refers to “classical liberalism”: representative democracy, a capitalist market economy with limited government involvement, and an emphasis on individual liberty over communal well-being. This is the ideology the US was founded upon (for white people, at least) and that it still largely embraces. Both major US political parties are liberal parties.

Within the US, the use of the term is very different. Republicans use “liberal” as a pejorative to describe anyone even slightly to their left. You could be a progressive, a social democrat, a communist, an anarchist, or simply a pragmatic individual who wants to fund libraries and public schools, and you would be branded a “lib.”

Since the mid-20th century, North Korea’s domestic politics have centered on the idea that the whole world is out to get them, and therefore they must be fiercely independent from outside influence. Openly asking for international aid would be like admitting defeat against all their political enemies, real and imagined. Nobody in power is going to do that.

One started as a cop but got fired after allegedly assaulting a suspect. He fell back on being a prison guard, but didn’t last long there, either. Now he has a job with a freight railroad.

Another was lined up to inherit his dad’s business, but instead got into drug dealing and eventually murdered someone. Now he’s in prison for life.

The .com craze was a gold rush to a land with proven reserves. It was clear there was a huge opportunity to get rich. The question was which companies would find the right approach and succeed. Amazon lived, other retailers like Pets.com didn’t. Kozmo and Webvan failed but their general business ideas later succeeded at other companies. And so on.

AI feels more like a gold rush based on rumors and hype. It isn’t clear (at least to me) that a market opportunity exists to justify the massive spending going on.
