It’s unfortunately bigger than just the suckers being suckered. These things also get pumped a lot by “early investors”, whose strategy is to get the stock immediately and sell quickly to take adventage of the initial surge. They increase the demand a lot and contribute to that surge.
I’m with you here, I’ve never done the over-and-over installation myself but since you can take different paths with Arch, I can see someone enjoy exploring those paths.

I run KDE plasma desktop on my laptop, and my home and work monitors have different geometries.
On display attach/detach, the desktop moves windows around rather intelligently but sometimes the geometry messes up and the window may end up atbsome ridiculous coordinates outside display areas.
On a desktop computer with multi monitors, the displays are loaded one after another at boot or resume from display-off mode, so the same geometric bug can still trigger.

Also most consumer demand indirect. Few people buy RAM sticks but a lot of people buy laptops, tablets, smartphones, TVs, consoles, cars, fridges, toasters etc.
Sure the prices will go down a bit, but never to pre-bubble levels. This is the new “market rate” now.
Invisible hand creates best prices when there is infinite supply, many suppliers, elastic demand. None of that exists and neoclassic economics is bullshit.
For consumers, sure, RAM modules aren’t something people buy in general. But every device needs memory, RAM and flash. Cars, smartphones, business machies, fucking tv’s need them today.
I work for a medical startup and we had to pay scalper prices for the NAND flash chips for the first batch of our devices because of a shortage, because the specific model we need is only made by Micron and their fabs are too busy making stuff for datacenters.
They were never worth that much. But scams are profitable if you can enter early and find a bigger sucker to pass the hot potato. Which helps the hype.

Fixers are all about connections. If you are rich enough, or politically important, you probably have a fixer. You wronged someone? Your son drove drunk and ran over someone? For the right price your fixer can make the problem disappear. It can be bribe, intimidation, settlement, or in the most extreme case, arrange an unfortunate accident.
