  • You really either ride it out or be OK with the chance of missing out on a few more years of a hot market. I’ve been expecting a big (sustained) correction since 2018 and even COVID couldn’t get it done.

If you need money soon, put it in something fully insulated, like a CD or HYSA if you need it even more liquid. If you need wealth in 10+ years, just ride it out. Keep putting that piece of your paycheck in the infinite money glitch machine.

  • I live in California and am required to water a lawn as a renter with my drinking water. Turf grass may not need drinking water, but I’d guess the portion of water used for grass that is recycled is not particularly high.

You may also be surprised about what makes water “drinking water”. There’s a water project in San Diego that is aiming to close the water loop by purifying all wastewater using RO and UV, to the point that it is lab-quality pure water. It’s illegal to add minerals to it and pump it into the municipal water supply. They have to discharge it into a river first and let it have a certain “residence time” in an open air reservoir. The water we drink here isn’t much more than lake water, and far less clean than the water that can be made by recycling wastewater.

  • Ah but that’s the thing, I did let you borrow the crimps, with a little lecture attached.

It’s tough because obviously we don’t know each other. I don’t know if you have real interest or just wanted someone else to do the thinking for you. You don’t know if I don’t want to help or if I was just being an ass.

So I appreciate you actually trying to give real advice. I should maybe think twice about my comments like that. I will give some advice back.

I would love to see more people like you do a little bit of background reading and a little bit of critical thinking on their own before asking others how to think. Not more than a minute or two, maybe not even more than just reading the article to see if the answer is in it. You’re already on your phone or PC, the information is very accessible.

Instead of “How are they any different? Why won’t they just do the same thing?” it could be “I get that they’re open source, but couldn’t it just get abandoned anyway? That doesn’t seem any better than enshittifying, so how could I tell if that is likely?”

  • Low tire pressure is not a safety issue, more of a efficiency issue, until it is so low that you’d need to be paying ZERO attention to the car’s handling to not notice. Lower pressure actually increases performance (to a point, and depending on the tire) because it can allow more rubber to contact the road. It is pretty typical to air down to around 20 psi for performance driving even if it’s closer to 35 for daily driving.

It’s very easy to notice if one tire loses pressure because you’ll have a very strong pull to one side, almost like a bad alignment. I got my tires rotated at a shop and they deflated the tires for some reason and forgot to refill one of them. On my way home I was freaking out that they fucked my alignment because it was handling so weird on the suburban roads home (not even twisty performance driving). My TPMS didn’t even go off until I was basically home already. When I checked the tire it was maybe 15 or 20. Certainly not dangerous but also certainly noticeable.
