In my neighborhood the city just gives out a bunch of free balls to kids and there’s enough floating around that nobody feels the need to steal one. No maintenance cost, just the bulk price of basketballs once a year.

162·6 months agoI live in a city with poorly implemented protected lanes and I absolutely feel less visible and less safe in the protected lane when approaching intersections. It is very common for folks in cars making turns to just cut me off so that I have to slam on my brakes to avoid colliding with them. Protected lanes can be much safer, but to do it correctly you have to sacrifice a large chunk of parking near intersections. Car people don’t like to sacrifice those spaces.

They absolutely are because they own the resale market too and get a cut of all those sales. They don’t have to actually do the scalping themselves, just not get in the way.
