Few people who use these apps expect to be surveiled. That may make them ignorant, but that doesn’t change that this is a breach of their privacy.

We did not have this problem 20ish years ago, aligned headlights can be bright and not aimed at your eyes. I’d be nice to have this also but could we just get some enforcement on the alignment.

That is rad. My father started with solar domestic hot water heating, then got some PV solar, never bothered with batteries (it was at a time when batteries kind of sucked). Did ok for our northern latitudes. Power company didn’t encourage it though which makes it feel like a bit of an uphill battle. I’m thinking of doing my own house but again, it seems like you’ve got to be the expert if you want to make it work, and power companies aren’t happy to have your contributions.

Must solve all problems at the same time for entire country, can’t possibly wind things down while building up alternatives. Only good solution is nuclear, ignore all previous nuclear issues, they were one offs that only happened because people were stupid. We now smart humans will never have stupid or corrupt people.

Really I don’t even dislike nuclear, some people treat it as the only option when there are clearly alternatives, and solar and batteries appears to be one.

I don’t actually care, but when I have in the past (around 2006 era) it “just worked”, while other distros i was using required more hand holding (gentoo, redhat, slackware). I suspect most distros are just fine now a days (using debian now and it seems just fine).

thanks; for anyone looking, the issues have been split out at the bottom, none of them are addressed as of this writing. I don’t know that I feel like they are that serious (most of them allow you to play things if you know an ID), but they are the kind of thing you’d see in a project where there are bigger security issues.

What security gaps in particular? I did have to reverse proxy to get it to https, are there additional security issues?

I find the clients ok, not great, but I haven’t explored that space much, there are many more options than Plex. Plex seems to be making theirs worse. It actually seems like Plex tries to make my content in their client harder to find.

The real issue is jellyfin is not as good at finding metadata. I’ve overcome this with tinymediamanager, but it still isn’t as good.

For secure remote streaming, I’ve got mine behind caddy with https (caddy does the let’s encrypt dance it’s really pleasant, even works with my free DNS provider), which seems about as secure as Plex was. Are there other security aspects I’m missing that Plex provides?
