I currently have the Ncase M2, since I prefer air cooling. I don’t have a pic of the PC in the M2, but here it is in the Cooler Master NR200:

I had a storage server (NAS) even before I went the SFF route, so there was little to sacrifice. Too bad the server wouldn’t fit in a nice SFF case.
You can build an SFF (small form factor) PC no problem. It’s harder and more expensive due to the clearances and parts being more niche, but I would highly recommend it.
I have an RTX 3080 and Ryzen 5800x in mine, all under 16l in volume, without any compromises.

I’ve used .rar to backup some data to an unpowered drives, some time ago. You can reserve additional space for the checksums while compressing, so you won’t be able to recover just regular .rar files.

This week I nad to install Wi*dows on my old laptop so I could give it to my dad.
It turns out that for some reason microslop does not include the NVMe drivers for this platform in the installer. Never had this issue when installing Linux on it. Image my confusion when I found out this was the issue.

I’ve even seen multiple posts on local subreddits about people buying SUV/crossovers and one of the main reason was being blinded by other SUVs.
Fucking horrible it should be checked at every MOT, and it sometimes is, but the newer vehicles are exempt from yearly MOTs for some stupid reason.
Gemma 4 seems nice for local usage, way faster than Qwen models.
I was able to run 27B Gemma on my PC, where 14B Qwen was to slow due to CPU offload
I decided to go bare minimum effort to get the self-hosted music expirience, so I’m just hosting the music on NextCloud for the Symfonium app to grab. I downloaded most of the music from YT music using yt-dlp, since that’s what I’m quite familiar with and I don’t have the arr stack set up yet.
I’m planning to move to Navidrome or Jellyfin soon™

rn I’m only using docker for the services I have behind a VPN, so I don’t really put that much thought into securing them. If I had any publicly accessible ones I would setup an automatic patch or even build my custom images.
And as always I’m trying to up my security game, but not at any cost
Yeah, I evaluated my position since and now I’m trying to deploy Forgejo, but I’m still stuck in the IaC rabbit hole and can’t crawl out
I use NextCloud for syncing photos from my phone and sharing photo galleries with my SO. NextCloud is quite bad for viewing photos, that’s why I have the Memories plugin and app, but it’s still not perfect. I also have the Recognize plugin, but in my setup it’s been broken for a few months and I don’t have the time to fix it.
So if I replace the photo sharing functionality I could replace the NextCloud itself for file sharing with something lighter. Might even go back to SMB.
I’ve been deploying Gitea (or Forgejo, still can’t decide), but I’ve fallen into the Ansible rabbit hole and can’t get out. Also learned Terraform in the last week and I’m still on the fence about using it in my homelab. It’s nice for the cloud but I don’t think it’s as useful on-prem.
It might be time for me to make the switch, too Soo many things to selfhost and not enough time, but nextcloud had been annoying me for some time so it might get the priority

Cases like NR200 would also fit a few 3.5" drives, but the reason I couldn’t fit my current server into a SFF-ish case is that the mobo is mATX and I have all PCIe slots full. Most of the SFF cases (even if they fit mATX) not enough space for my PCIe needs.
I could upgrade to a built-in NVMe and SFP+ (or downgrade to 2.5GbE), but I don’t want to spend that kind of money just to save some space I don’t really need to save.
