I setup Debian with MATE for a friend who had only used Window$ and had little to none technical knowledge, then setup cronjobs for 1) upgrading all installed packages 2) her data to be rsynced between the two built-in SSDs. Again: stock is property. Arguing that the only reason to invest in stocks is getting money out of it by selling later at a higher price would be like saying that people buy apartments/land/metals solely for future financial gain.

Not quite. A (common) stock is nothing more than a certificate of ownership of part of a company. In theory, the value of that capital should increase over time, plus you hopefully get dividends regularly. Again - it’s ownership, so that means that you could, in principle, hold that instrument ‘forever’ (just like you would, say, a piece of land), never planning to sell it back, and therefore not giving a single f*ck about its current or future price.
These are not ‘investors’, but speculators.

They cannot limp along indefinitely, but they can do so for decades. That’s exactly the problem. It’s a common ‘turkey problem’. In my experience, whether the company can get out of the swamp depends mainly on two things: whether bosses/decision makers understand anything at all about technology, and whether they are willing (and, hierarchically speaking, able) to have their skin in the game for big, important changes.
Capitalism is the art of making compliant sheeps out of middle-classniks who are afraid to lose their jobs. More specifically, they are not afraid of speaking out, or refusing orders, because that would threaten their livelihood, but because the could not afford their current lifestyle anymore.
What I don’t get is: why exactly is such software so popular ? Does one really need it instead of just swiping twice or thrice to find the app one is looking for?
