A as a step towards B man

Pretty handy, thanks :)

If your kids aren’t better than you at something you fucked up imo. Hope those know it all assholes know you respect them too, this whole world is way too competitive and that kind of recognition from a parent is incredibly affirming

It’s about what dad can gain from being told. Covering up a mistake like this is condescending and any confidence that lets him keep is false. Part of being up to the job is a realistic idea of your capabilities and the ability to receive feedback. If dad’s still a peer and a real part of the team, he needs (and gets) to know. Hiding accidents like this to maintain a more comfortable reality is how you handle a patient during end of life care, not someone who’s still living and working in the world we share.
Conversely… at some point our capabilities dwindle, no one gets to participate in our shared reality forever. If your father’s at a point where you need to shelter and protect him there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s quite a heavy responsibility to assume and not necessarily going to be easy or fun for either of you. Very similar commitment to raising a child, but keeps getting harder until they die instead of easier as they grow. It’s heavy stuff and no one here can answer this for you op. The way you frame this makes you seem like an intelligent and caring person, you’ve got this. Good luck out there.

Let’s be wildly paranoid lol

I see lemmy as harm reduction, the methadone to instagram’s fent. Incremental changes are often more sustainable than grand gestures, just getting off the infinite feed of short form video would be a huge step in the right direction and probably a lot easier to adjust to from where you’re at now

This guy doesn’t even finish reading lemmy

It ranges from “present a thesis about our ideology” to “password optional”. You can run your own instance too. The whole federation thing is a pretty cool concept, I suggest looking into it a bit vs just thinking of this as a reddit alternative. Yeah there are apps and frontends pretty much identical to reddit, but it’s a very superficial similarity

Bro hurl your phone into the sea stat, you’ve got a lot of grass touching to catch up on. Feeling sucked in sometimes I can relate to, reality being the exception is wild. Theoretical damage on the societal level aside this is a huge red flag that this tech is hurting you and you need to disengage. I’m not going to advocate for specific meditations here or anything, just find something to do that doesn’t involve a screen
None of em, dummy! Which shambling, ghoulish, inhuman predatory entity constructed entirely of our stolen wealth and labor is your favourite?

Seconded, genuinely better than official tools after a brief learning curve

It’s not, but the robot doesn’t have morals or a conscience or alignment with human values to get in the way. Kinda like billionaires!

On Mars you need tech, wrong direction, return to monkey

I hear both but say z

This is in common use in my area with slightly modified context. To “house” something is to envelop and incorporate it, almost always in reference to food. Threatening to house someone would be weird and vaguely sexual, “bro fuckin housed those crispitos” is a normal thing to hear

Human output is innately transformative, and our “training data” is lived experience vs pattern recognition. You acknowledged that but imo don’t really appreciate what it means. We are doing more than regurgitating inputs even when our output happens to be repetitive. A LLM is only regurgitating inputs even when its output happens to be unique. It is no more than the sum of its parts, and stolen parts mean stolen output.

Why the fuck would we assume training an LLM is anything like training a person?

Real bad op, seem to post more the worse I’m doing. Thanks for asking though, bumps things up to like a 4
The old school ones were actual plumbing parts screwed together, and modern iterations use NPT threading to this day. Probably 1/2"
