Agreed. Make it about the privacy of students or something. Privacy is a winning topic across much of the political spectrum and would gain support from a lot of parents. In the end, make it about the benefits of free and open source software.

Just go back to establishing a computer lab with shared resources. We don’t need a laptop in every kid’s backpack. Fewer screens and more books is the answer.

Agreed but at the same time, every kid having one is a detriment at the moment. It only adds to the overstimulation kids face in so many other places. Books, paper, pen, and, pencil are the way to go. Save computes for learning about how to use computers and tech effectively.

I’ll add that I learned from another user on here who administers a fleet of Chromebooks and iPads for a school that those devices make management of the classroom much easier. They’re designed with it in mind. He tried exploring Linux and it just didn’t allow teachers to monitor for inappropriate activity the same way.

Its not about what can or cannot be done with the operating system but rather what functionality it has to support those with impairments to things like hearing or sight.

Yep, then you only have to worry about the environmental harm and cognitive decline of anyone who uses it, especially kids.

I like Void and do use it. I agree that because of its reliability and very good documentation, it is actually pretty easy. You just have to be able to follow directions. I wouldn’t call it beginner friendly though. Not when other mainstream distros have graphical installers that will do a lot of the setup for you. To each their own. That’s the beauty of Linux and open source, freedom.

I’m not here to defend it. It has been working very well for me and I thought I’d share. I will say you’re being a bit disingenuous with your comments about telemetry. Of course, the reference is to the distro itself, not the software that you are of course free to install.

In the most basic sense, that’s exactly what it is. It has some great default settings for security and optimization as well as an easy to use control center that lets you take things even further. It’s working really well for me so far.

Love Universal Blue! Every distro is a joy to use. Oh man, unRAID is moving to uCore as well. That should be a positive change.

They make hardware and this is the OS for that hardware. I ran it on a Windows laptop that had Chromebook specs. ChromeOS Flex was almost useless for my case so this was the next best thing. I run Debian on that now but this was fine while I used it. There is openFyde as well.

Try FydeOS if you want Google Play store and Android apps.
