Do you by chance live in a high CoL area?
See you think that - but excel finds a way. We have what are lovingly called the “spreadsheets of doom” which accounting uses to manage all forecasts, and the bits that involve money flows. Did you know you can hook excel into Salesforce and pull all the sales records? A person who thinks her monitor is her computer (she has a Dell laptop) somehow found a way…
The problem is not everyone who wants to can move. Picking up everything and moving to New England or the West Coast is not viable for people making minimum wage.
That makes me wonder. Can you escape it with a non-us keyboard?
Can we take a moment to ask ourselves - how the hell did piping to shell become ok? We have all kinds of method’s for deploying stuff - from the age old tarball to the new shinny flat pack. But somehow we also became ok with

Oftentimes as root.
Nah. The porn account follows porn like a normal person.
Someone actually followed world news?
Not just to make someone do a double take at your instance?
I beg to differ. Wood phone cases hide the bump by increasing the total thickness of the phone and making the back nice and flat.
It’s software put on every machine so that the company can quickly isolate it if/when something bad happens (or it falls out of security compliance). To do this is requires a constant Internet connection, insanely high privileges on the machine and frequent updates to be appraised of risks.
That risk update went off the rails and into the next state.
Do read it. But also keep in mind the time the books where published.
Honestly I think the fedverse (or it’s successors) will adopt some of the components of tor (or it’s successors) and merge into something new.
Fair warning. For me book 3 was a bit of a slog, but seeing everything come together in book 4 was worth it.
Story time! There is series by Tad Williams called “otherland” - it’s a rift in the standard stuck in vr story.
Anywho. There is a group of hackers, weirdos and nerds who did not like the corporate vr experience and built their own (treehouse). In all honesty it’s an expansion of the tor project.
But it’s what I hope for. A place to end up in the web that’s not saturated to hell and back by corporate interests, and you need to know someone for the ladder to be let down and you to be let in.
Linux: fine. The mac’s in my house don’t get to print. Windows: painless.
God no. You never want to have radarr fetch an entire movie and dump it into jellyfin/Plex by the time your popcorn is done. No sir.
I think I’m the same way? I know I much rather build my feed into something I want to read as opposed to what the algorithm thinks I want to read.
Which is interesting because you and I both on social media interacting. Are we here because of the lack of algorithms/corporate bullshit?
So I own a framework and use it as a personal device. I love it.
That said I will not be advocating my department replaces our dells with them until they have next day replacement devices (we are entirely remote so there is no “swing by the help desk to have someone fiddle with your computer”).
The only thing better is if Disney’s legal department thinks there is a risk…
That’s just…sad.
