I do, but something about it doesn’t feel right. Maybe I’m just not committing to it cos I can too easily jump back to the host OS

Usually if I’ve made a mess with installs or config and want a clean slate, but this time I’m doing it cos I tried out a new OS and it didn’t work out.
Hard to say exactly, how much, maybe twice a year, but when I do reinstall I often reinstall like three times in quick succession until I get a good foundation.
Thanks but not considering hardware adjustments. I’ll look at the bios board efficiency, turning it off, and the wall meter thing

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta found liable in child exploitation caseEnglish
61·5 months agoIn the next phase of the legal proceedings, due to begin on 4 May, the attorney general’s office will seek additional financial penalties and court-mandated changes to Meta’s platforms that “offer stronger protections for children”, said Torrez.
The design feature changes the state is seeking include “enacting effective age verification, removing predators from the platform, and protecting minors from encrypted communications that shield bad actors”.
Unclear how age verification would play out with their Digital Childhood Alliance efforts.

Technology@lemmy.world•How the Iran war could derail the AI boomEnglish
25·5 months agoAI boom is a poor choice of words, even though it’s intentional. And I don’t believe the article’s starting paragraph
For more than three years, AI has propped up global trade and investment and pushed stock markets from the US to Asia to record highs.
However, there is a boom in investment in AI, whether that actually yields anything or not. I read the article as meaning derailing that.
The consequences outlined in the rest of the article look to be agnostic to productivity
You make a good point. I read it as “people who aren’t in thrall to the machine can take back control”. The vast majority of people have little say in this show.
As @Quazatron says, those that are in thrall don’t look particularly human.
To quote:
The real bubble is not stock valuations but the inflated ego of an industry that thinks it is just one more datacentre away from computational divinity.

Good point
