I was recently banned from “Manufacturing Consent” on Lemmy.ml - supposedly for being a “Zionist,” which is a complete and utter fabrication of a lazy mod (ETA: we weren’t even discussing Israel) because they didn’t like someone pointing out problems with their arguments.

It really amused me because I’m quite certain the irony of doing that in a community named like that completely eludes them.

I’d make it my profile avatar if I were in there under this name, but it was my prior account which I lost when my instance recently closed down. So if I do it on this account, I’ll probably have to deal with “stolen valor” accusations.

The key word being “instance” - they’d have a helluva time trying to take down the whole thing altogether. Much like pirate sites, chop one head off & two more will take its place. Communities will just migrate & reestablish footing elsewhere. If the feds do it enough, then backup plans will become automatic where instances back each other up.

Love when companies teach the point of control-freaking themselves out of business - it gives everybody a chance to start anew with better options.
