It depends what kind of software exactly. If you need a kernel module driver then you’ll have to make a custom image. It’s pretty easy if you just follow the steps in the docs and use the custom image template, but it’s probably not something a complete beginner would want to do.
I have to do this in order to load the sensors driver for my motherboard sensors, for example. Any software that requires changes to the base image would have to follow this process.

This is still a problem for OSS licensing, since in order to license a work you need to be the copyright holder.
This might mean that OSS projects find it even more difficult to assert their licenses against violators in court, since they would need to prove that the part of the code that was copied was not AI output.
Banning the output of AI tools in OSS codebases is a sensible move for any project that actually cares about enforcing the license that their code is released under.

If you’re trying to be cost-effective, renting a VPS for a fixed term instead of using a IaaS platform that provides all these things just by clicking a checkbox, then caring about your firewall is a necessary part of building the system image that you deploy. You can of course set up your own private networking between systems and build the same type of architecture that a IaaS would provide, but to do that you’re going to need to understand everything about linux networking and netfilter already.
